Joomla SEO Mistake #4 - Not removing the default content

Mistake number 4 is not removing the default content that comes with Joomla. That includes:

  1. The global meta tags that you can find in the global configuration;
  2. The articles, such as those about Joomla, that are already on the pages.

When you’re trying to improve your SEO, you need unique meta tags for each page on your site. You certainly don’t want the same meta tags on all your pages — and if you're using Joomla 1.5, the default meta tags will have Joomla keywords in them. They’re likely to be completely irrelevant to your site.

Remove everything in the global meta tags and keep the field empty.

The same is true of the default articles, Web links and menu items that come with Joomla if you install the CMS with content. Take them all out, otherwise you’ll have content that's irrelevant to your site and which also appears on millions of other sites. That’s only going to harm your ranking.
